ShohrehShakoory
Shohreh grew up in the little town of Shahroud, northeast Iran, in the time of the Islamic Republic during which music was prohibited and the only way to learn music was training privately with former professional musicians.
At the age of 20 Shohreh started training on the piano and music theory. She had to travel 8 to 12 hours to reach the teacher’s house in Tehran to have lessons, which she did for four years. Following her training, Shohreh played for Iranian Television and Radio (the national broadcaster) for over four years, recording for children’s programmes, radio shows and film scores.
She moved to the UK in 1993 where she studied piano with Bernard d’Ascoli, Eleanor Harris, and Roger Green at Trinity College, London, receiving her Teacher’s Diploma (LTCL) from Trinity College, London in 1997. Shohreh spent 9 years living in Belgium working as a teacher and performer. Shohreh currently lives in Kent in the UK.
